Fantastic Foods . . .

Daily Prompt: Five a Day

You’ve being exiled to a private island, and your captors will only supply you with five foods. What do you pick?

Wow! My captor must really be nice to give me an option to choose five foods for myself in the state of exile and I’ll try to make the most of this amazing offer.. =D

I’ll choose:

  1. Cream Cheese Triangles
  2. Biryani

    (A Pakistani rice dish)

  3. Pizza
  4. Spicy minced meat with boiled rice and pickles (It’s a dish which my mom cooks exclusively for me.. And since this is again a Pakistani dish I cannot describe it very well in words but It’s just too good 😀 )
  5. Macaroni cooked in Béchamel sauce

After my thoughts to wish for all these things, I really hope not to wake up soon from this wonderful dream of mine! =D

A locally awesome Sunday

Daily Prompt: Local Flavor

Write a piece about a typically “local” experience from where you come from as though it’s an entry in a travel guide.

I am a Pakistani and we are a food loving nation. Be it a happy occasion or a sad one, We EAT!

Few Sundays ago, Our family of five (ME, my parents, my siblings) went to Urdu bazaar (A market place for books and stationery etc) to purchase some books for university. Unfortunately the market was closed that day so we had to decide to go somewhere to have some evening snacks (It was included in our plan to have some snacks on our way back). So we went to Bahadurabad (A famous local place in Karachi, Pakistan) on a small food stall. The shop next to it was selling ‘Fish n Chips’ but we were determined to have a local snacks to we bought ‘Chaat’. Chaat basically consists of boiled chickpeas, garnished with onion (optional), yoghurt,  tamarind relish, some crushed spices and chopped dried red pepper!

Chana (chickpeas) Chaat

Chana (chickpeas) Chaat

After having that we bought ‘gol gappay’. Another favourite food of Pakistani people. It consists of Puri (dough fired in ghee or oil in small round shapes) to be dipped in spicy, sour water.

Pani puri (Gol gappay)

And the perfect evening was topped by Blueberry cone ice-cream!

Daily Prompt: Comfort Zone

What are you more comfortable with — routine and planning, or laissez-faire spontaneity?

Planning; Is not my thing! No! I am a sort of person who would do things spontaneously rather planning for something ages ago. It’s not all because I’m lazy but because I’m too talkative and waste my time in talking much and acting less and I’m not ashamed of my spontaneous actions either. For example, last week my brother came on his bicycle to receive me at bus stop on my way back to the university and what I did was extremely spontaneous and it even took me by surprise. I almost implored him to give me his bicycle to ride home. (Though it might not be strange in some countries to see a girl riding a bicycle but it would definitely be strange for anyone in any country to see a girl in full abaya and covered face to ride a bicycle 😉 )

So, I’m just spontaneous in my own crazy way, I am not an organized person always cramming my work in the last moment. My father once gifted me a diary to write my timetable in. It was quite an elegant looking diary in leather cover and all! I decided to write my studying timetable in that dairy during exams but alas! To this day, I always write the timetable for some 2-3 days in it, never being able to finish the course on time and giving up writing for the time being!

In short, I am a lazy sort of spontaneous person and I just cannot deal with organization in my life. 😀

Fairy Tales

Daily Prompt: Twenty-Five

There are 26 letters in the English language, and we need every single one of them. Want proof? Choose a letter and write a blog post without using it. (Feeling really brave? Make it a vowel!)

Since, I am no literary genius I can’t make it a vowel! but yeah I’ll write a post excluding the last letter of the alphabets ( can’t name it here 😉 )

I can’t think of anything to write today.. Daily prompt does it for me daily, well but I surely have to write something, so here goes!witch_brewing_potion_poster-ra487e9847efb4eb8ada5854b563f6af9_w2q_216

Once upon a time. in a lonely hut, in a far away jungle, lived a mean old witch. You all know how mean witches are, well… they’re mean. Once she was brewing up an evil potion and for that she needed (of course) princess’ hair. So she kidnapped a princess from a nearby castle (as in all fairy tales castles are so conveniently close to the witches’ hut). So she kidnapped the princess and not more than two days later a lost prince arrived and went accidentally into the witches’ hut (as expected). He saw the starved (but still in her perfect attire 😉 ) princess and rescued her. As they were going out the hut the prince tossed the witch in her pot of brew thus killing her. ( anything can happen in a fairy tale, A prince CAN toss a witch in the pot) and they went back to the castle where they got married and lived happily ever after! 😀

See.. The above story does not contain the last letter of the alphabet! 😀

Something else entirely.

Daily Prompt: Places

Beach, mountain, forest, or somewhere else entirely?

My first thought was mountain, But it’s way too above my reach. My second thought would have been beach if it hadn’t been too noisy at weekends (Since I only have time on weekends). So, Finally I settled on my apartment roof on the windy evening or a lightly breezy morning with a comfortable chair and a good book in my hands. Seriously, In my opinion, nothing can replace it. 😀
